About
Churchplays
What do you mean by something completely
different?
Have you ever seen The Last Supper staged as a Mafioso
dinner? Moses conferring with his “spin-doctor” following
the Mount Sinai fund-raiser? Or Cain and Abel at the Movies, reviewing
the latest religious flick, “Born Again”?
May I view a sample
script?
Not only can you see one, you may use "Fishing
for Men" FREE
OF CHARGE! Click
here to view this comedy set in a morning
televised fishing show where two good-old-boys, Simon and Simon
Peter, are out on Lake Geneserrat, trading corny jokes and
fishing for good Christian men ("and women!"). They
fail to hook the wily "Old
Man of the Church," using five-pound "test-ament" line,
but do manage to reel in a new believer after a tremendous struggle
and the use of the best bait ever: "...the teachin’ of
Jesus as found in the New Testament." Once in the boat, their "catch" can't
wait to see how the thrilling story ends.
Are ChurchPlays off-the-wall?
Absolutely. Are they effective? You bet. Tali Sundberg, a member
of our drama team and Bible teacher, commented that she enjoys
performing in the skits because the writing is so “irreverently reverent.” That’s
because at the core of each ChurchPlay is a positive message of
hope and redemption, and a lasting reminder of what can happen when we open
our hearts and minds to the teachings in the Bible.
Are all of the ChurchPlays funny?
Certainly not. As powerful as humor can be to set
up a sermon, serious scripts offer a welcome change of pace, and
can be equally effective. For example,
"King of Kings" is a frank interview that recounts
how participating in the Crucifixion changed the life
of one Roman soldier forever. And "Voices
from the Valley" helps the congregation find a ray of solace
in the darkness of a national tragedy.
Are they easy to stage?
Every ChurchPlay has been proven effective
in a regular Sunday service, performed by amateur actors. In most
cases, there is a minimal amount of memorization
required, and
I have written into the skits ways to naturally have scripts on
stage, such as in menus or on clipboards. In addition, scenery
and prop suggestions are offered to make your drama ministry experience
as free from stress as possible.
How much do the scripts cost?
The performance rights for each of the 5-7 minute ChurchPlay skits
are $15.00, which allows you to perform each skit as often as you want within
your own congregation. Longer plays for Christmas and Easter are $25.00 each.
Rights are not transferable.
